The CFA’s first-ever England Race Day took place on 17th July at Leicester Racecourse. After a slightly dreary start, the weather cleared up for guests to enjoy the outdoor races, with a great turnout and an even better atmosphere.
The event was held alongside the CFA’s Annual General Meeting, which was a welcome opportunity to connect with members. The meeting opened with a keynote address by Jo Fautley (pictured right), Deputy CEO of Build UK, who shared an insightful and engaging update on current industry developments, focusing on challenges facing specialist contractors.
Topics included pre-qualification schemes (with CFA continuing to back the Common Assessment Standard), contractor competency within the Building Safety Regime, and ongoing concerns around payment practices and retentions and site conditions.
During the AGM, members approved the minutes of the 2024 AGM, the 2024/2025 year-end accounts, the election of Council members, and the appointment of accountants for the coming year. With two Council positions available, the CFA was pleased to confirm the re-election of Alan Gayle (A G Flooring Ltd) to the contractor seat and the election of Michael Gadney (Genesis Global Systems Ltd) to the manufacturer seat. Congratulations to both.
The CFA Council for the coming year is: Alan McEwan (F. Ball & Co. Ltd) – President; Matthew Brown (Uzin Utz UK Ltd) – Vice-President; Louise Walters (Designer Contracts) – Treasurer; Carl Harper (Westcotes Flooring Co Ltd) – Immediate Past President; David Brady (RJM Flooring); Kevin Clinch (Consultant); Ross Dight (Tarkett Ltd); Michael Gadney (Genesis Global Systems Ltd); Alan Gayle (A G Flooring Ltd); Hamish MacGregor (MacGregor Flooring Company Ltd); Tony Mathé (Hillside Contracts Ltd); Nick Perkins (Loughton Contracts plc); Gary Scott (Hanson Plywood Ltd); Vicki Stiles (UltraFloor/Instarmac Group plc); and Jonathan Wells (J & S Flooring Ltd).
Launched on the day was the new edition of the CFA’s Future Fitters Guidance Booklet which includes a section on Women in Flooring. The CFA was delighted to welcome guest Adele Anderson (pictured left), who was one of the floor layers featured in this updated document.
