Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS) Appoints First-Ever Managing Director

Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS) an independently run organisation which sets out to support and guide positive change in the construction industry. The Scheme is owned by the Construction Umbrella Bodies (Holdings) Ltd which is made up of the Construction Products Association and the Construction Industry Council. Appointing Desiree Blamey as the business’ first Managing Director marks a significant milestone in its leadership journey.

When contractors and suppliers register their construction activity with the Scheme they agree to abide by the Code of Considerate Practice and to be visited by a Scheme Monitor. Its guidelines aim to make positive changes to the way they work and to operate more responsibly and respectfully focused on three key sections: respecting the community, caring for the environment, and valuing the workforce.

Independent Monitors visit and assess each registered construction activity to see how well they conform with the Code. After each visit, a report is made highlighting how the construction activity is performing in relation to the Code. The report also includes notes and resources to help improve performance.

Desiree Blamey is a seasoned finance and business executive with over 15 years of experience across construction, engineering and advisory sectors in both the UK and Australia. Her promotion follows her impactful tenure as CCS’s Head of Partnerships which included driving CCS’s partnerships with key contractors, developers, government stakeholders and industry trade bodies and institutions in the UK and Ireland.

Desiree’s appointment has been made with the objective to amplify industry impact, elevate standards and drive best practice.

Desiree has a particular focus on creating opportunities for women and underrepresented groups in construction. She has called for more ambitious action across the sector to eradicate sexual harassment. Desiree also serve as Treasurer of the Violence Intervention Project, a charity tackling youth violence.

On her appointment as Managing Director of CCS, Desiree said: “Stepping into the role of Managing Director at this pivotal moment is a defining opportunity to help shape the future of our industry. Construction transforms the world around us, it’s a force for progress, innovation and equity. I’m excited to work alongside our partners to raise the bar and challenge norms, while enabling an industry culture that’s safer, smarter and more inclusive.”

April Comerford and Mark Field have also joined the leadership team. As Director of Corporate Development, April will focus on strengthening relationships with key client partners and driving business growth. Mark, as Director of Operations, will lead efforts to streamline CCS operations and embed technological solutions.
